La Ventana is a small fishing village on the Sea of Cortez. It is located on the Bay of La Ventana, approximately 20 miles south of La Paz. The tranquil shores of this bioregion look out over Ceralvo Island. The Sea of Cortez was recently declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
‘The mountains and landscapes of this area are home to over 100 species of cactus and its ocean waters are the home to 39% of the world’s total number of species of marine mammals and a third of the world’s marine cetacean species.” UNESCO
The explorer Jacques Cousteau referred to it as the “world’s aquarium.”
Project Azu established La Ventana as a portal in the winter of 2018. La Ventana was chosen based on it’s location on the Sea of Cortez and the water activities that have defined this area. In the last 12 years it has become know as a world class kite surfing destination. It is famous for consistent north winds that blow from November to April. These winds are a combination of El Nortes (northerly fronts) and local thermal winds. The winds make it possible to kite almost every day during the winter season. It attracts kite surfers from around the world.
